Body Shape Calculator – Find Your Body Shape and What It Means
Your body shape determines which shapewear styles flatter your figure, which exercises produce the most visible results and how to dress to enhance your natural proportions. This free calculator identifies your shape from three measurements and gives you personalised recommendations for shapewear and fitness — in under a minute.
How the Body Shape Calculator Works
Enter your bust, waist and hip measurements in centimetres or inches. The calculator applies established body shape classification formulas — waist-to-hip ratio, bust-to-hip ratio and waist-to-bust ratio — to identify your primary body shape. It then generates a profile including best shapewear styles, most effective exercise types and proportion-balancing guidance.
The Five Body Shapes Explained
Hourglass — Bust and hips are roughly equal (within 5%) with a waist at least 25% smaller than both. Balanced upper and lower proportions with a well-defined natural waist.
Pear (Triangle) — Hips are notably wider than the bust. The waist is well-defined but the lower body carries more volume. The most common female body shape.
Apple (Round) — Waist measurement is equal to or greater than hip measurement. Weight is carried primarily around the midsection.
Rectangle (Straight) — Bust, waist and hips are within 5% of each other. Little natural waist definition. The second most common female body shape.
Inverted Triangle — Shoulders and bust are notably wider than the hips.
Why Body Shape Matters for Shapewear
Each shape needs a different shapewear approach. Hourglass needs light to medium compression that smooths without flattening curves. Pear benefits from high-waist shorts that smooth the hips while defining the waist. Apple needs firm abdominal compression. Rectangle benefits from waist-defining styles that create the appearance of curves. Inverted triangle needs lower-body coverage and minimal upper-body compression.
Why Body Shape Matters for Fitness
Pear shapes typically respond well to upper body resistance training to balance proportions. Apple shapes see the fastest visible results from core and full-body compound exercises. Hourglass shapes maintain proportions best through balanced upper and lower body training. Knowing your shape lets you train smarter.
How to Measure Accurately
Bust: at the fullest point, tape horizontal around your back.
Waist: at the narrowest point, 2 to 3 inches above the navel, breathing normally — do not suck in.
Hips: at the fullest point, 8 to 9 inches below the natural waist, tape horizontal.
